Endometriosis causes tissue similar to the lining of the uterus to grow in different organs of the body.
Tissue buildup may be minimal, but in the most painful and severe cases it can cause scarring that fuses organs due to the time it takes for cells to leave the body after thickening during the menstrual cycle.
Detailing the health battle, which she kept secret while on Love Island, Molly-Mae said she was never aware of the problem before Tommy because she never had sex and therefore put it down to severe period pains.
In her 2022 autobiography, Becoming Molly-Mae, she wrote: “Before I was with Tommy, I didn’t really have sex, so I didn’t really think there was any problem other than my period pains.”
