In her new book, Molly-Mae, she explained that Instagram is all about “the perfect post,” noting that “my Instagram is everything to me.”

“Momentum is the key to success on Instagram, once you stop posting, you lose the momentum you’ve built,” she explains.

Next: “I like to post in the evenings, because that works better for me personally (although I would probably try to catch people in the morning on Friday or Saturday).”

Molly-Mae notes that she tends to post every day, and recommends taking a break from posting — it should be on a Friday or Saturday to maximize follower interactivity.

And it’s not just about watching your timing, the star thinks coming across as “related” to followers is the key to success, explaining, “People like that my posts aren’t too perfect or smoothed over; the outfits I wear are not difficult to achieve, the makeup I wear is not difficult, and neither is the hair – it’s all very recognizable.’

With the biggest social media presence of anyone to come out of Love Island, the star has become the show’s highest-grossing contestant — after finishing runner-up in the show’s 2019 series with beau Tommy Fury.

But while Molly-Mae’s main platform is Instagram, she started her career on YouTube — and still consistently posts to her 1.65 million subscribers.

In early 2016, the influencer had more than 10,000 followers on YouTube before Love Island skyrocketed.

But it’s not easy, as she does all the editing herself – admitting that she couldn’t trust anyone else to have that ‘control’ over such a ‘vulnerable, uncut’ part of her life.

“I film and edit all my videos from scratch myself,” she says, advising that “don’t worry too much about what you’re talking about, people love to hear you talk about your life.”

Molly-Mae’s Tips for Becoming an Influencer

1. Stick to one platform – TikTok is now ‘the one’

2. Post Instagram photos at night and during the week

3. Be recognizable to your followers

4. Choose your content carefully

5. Don’t Get Into Topics That Are Highly Controversial

6. If you want Instagram followers, start a YouTube channel

7. Do it because you like it

Molly-Mae says her best-performing videos are vlogs, which get a lot more engagement than videos they’re in, and explains that she tells anyone who wants to become an influencer: start a YouTube.

While she’s committed to posting regularly to Instagram and YouTube, Molly-Mae has stepped back from Twitter and labeled it “toxic.”

With her last tweet posted in October 2021, the influencer admitted she deleted it from her phone, recalling, “It started to get so annoying that I deleted the app.”

But while she’s already made her mark, Molly-Mae does have a tip for emerging influencers, advising to “stick with one platform.”

“If you’re eager to get started, I think it’s important to stick with one platform: TikTok is now ‘the one’ – and there will no doubt be the next big thing to explore. If you want to get more followers on Instagram, start a YouTube channel too.

“The other thing I always say is if you start an Instagram page or any other social feed, do it because you like it.”
