Luka Modric came off in the 63rd minute during Real Madrid’s 4-2 league defeat against Girona on Tuesday and iced his left thigh until the final whistle.
Real Madrid announced on Friday that its veteran Croatian international playmaker, Luka Modric, had injured his thigh, threatening his participation against Manchester City in the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals and the King’s Cup final.
A statement on the club’s website read, “After the tests conducted by Luka Modric… he was diagnosed with an injury in the back of his left thigh. His recovery will be assessed,” without specifying when he will return.
Modric came off in the 63rd minute during Real Madrid’s league match against Girona 2-4 on Tuesday and put ice on his left thigh until the final whistle.
The Madrid press indicated that the 2018 Ballon d’Or winner will miss the matches against Almeria on Saturday and Real Sociedad on Tuesday in the league.
There are doubts about his readiness for the King’s Cup final against Osasuna on the sixth of May, and the Champions League semi-finals will go to the Santiago Bernabeu on the ninth of it.
Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti said after the match, Tuesday, “We are waiting to see how his injury will develop. It is not clear if he will return for the cup final. This injury affects us. I hope he recovers quickly so that he is ready for important matches.”
With 11 points behind Barcelona, the league title seems elusive for Real Madrid, so it is focused on defending its continental title and winning the local cup competition for the first time since 2014.
