Mitchell thanks Kings and Sacramento fans in emotional post after trade Originally appeared in NBC Bay Area Sports
Davion Mitchell, a former Kings lottery pick, was a solid player during his three years in Sacramento before being traded to the Toronto Raptors June 27th.
The 25-year-old guard was a key defender for the Kings and while his role diminished after a solid rookie season, he’s grateful for the experience in Sactown.
Mitchell released a statement on Wednesday to Instagram, thanking the Kings organization and fans for their support.
The message reads: “To the amazing city of Sacramento and all the amazing fans, thank you.
“From the moment I was recruited, I was welcomed with open arms and supported through every moment, both good and bad. To my teammates, coaches, trainers and staff, thank you for everything. These memories we have created are unforgettable and I loved growing up together on and off the court.
“Sacramento, you believed in me from the beginning and you will always have a special place in my heart. It has been an honor to wear the Kings on my chest.
“I’m excited for the next chapter, but I’ll never forget where it all began.”
During his time with the Kings, Mitchell averaged 7.4 points and 2.8 assists in 20.4 minutes per game while shooting 32.7 percent from three-point range. He was often tasked with important defensive matchups, as his ball skills were one of his key attributes following a national championship-winning season at Baylor.
Mitchell, along with forward Sasha Vezenkov and the 45th pick in last week’s 2024 NBA Draft was traded to Toronto for sixth-year forward Jalen McDaniels.
With his minutes dwindling in the defensive end alongside Kevin Huerter and Malik Monk, Mitchell will look for bigger opportunities on a young Raptors team.
Regardless of his future role, he will surely be welcomed back to Sacramento next season as a visitor.
