The 15-year-old Missouri girl who was brutally beaten by another teenager is ‘fighting hard to stay alive’ after suffering brain damage in the horrific attack.

Kaylee Gain suffered a fractured skull and frontal lobe damage when her head was repeatedly smashed into the ground during a fight near her St. Louis High School last Friday. She was left alone on the ground to convulse until EMTs arrived.

The family says Gain has ‘major brain bleeds and swelling’ and is in ‘critical condition’. They won’t know the full extent of the damage until she wakes up.

“Kaylee is fighting hard to stay alive and heal, but this is just the beginning of a very uphill battle for Kaylee and her family,” her loved ones shared on a crowdfunding page, adding, “the road to recovery will be extremely hard on family not only mentally but financially.’

ONE GoFundMe created in support of Gain has raised nearly $200,000 in just two days. The fundraiser states that all donations will be used to “ease these stressful days so that Kaylee’s family can be 100% there for her day and night and help with the medical bills that they anticipate.”

The argument broke out around 2.30pm on Friday near the school.

Video of the incident circulated on social media, showing another girl slamming the teenager’s head into the concrete after throwing several punches, sending her to the ground.

Gain appeared to start having a seizure as groups of other teenagers brawled just feet away.

Police found the girl suffering from a serious head injury near the intersection of Norgate Drive and Claudine Drive, about a five-minute walk from the high school’s campus. She was taken to hospital and remains in critical condition.

‘In minutes, this family’s life was shattered when their only daughter was assaulted outside a North County high school,’ the crowdfunding page states.

‘She was left alone on the ground to convulse until the EMTs arrived on the scene. She was admitted to one of the local hospitals in Saint Louis with a fractured skull and damage to the frontal lobe.’

A statement attributed to her parents, and published on another GoFundMe pagesaid: ‘We are so grateful to the fantastic medical staff who have worked tirelessly to give her the best possible chance of a full recovery.

‘We know she has a very long road ahead of her, but we remain hopeful. We are so overwhelmed by all the support and love.’

This was confirmed by the teenager’s grandparents KSDK that both crowdfunding sites are legitimate and will be used to ‘help with costs incurred by Gain’s injuries and the parents’ lost wages’.

A 15-year-old girl was arrested on Saturday and charged with violence. She was taken to St. Louis County Family Court and remained in custody as of Sunday afternoon.

Attorney General Andrew Bailey has called for the ‘vicious’ 15-year-old girl who smashed Gain’s head into the concrete to be ‘disowned as an adult’.

Bailey announced on X: ‘This evil and complete disregard for human life has no place in Missouri or anywhere. I pray for the victim.

“The criminal should be charged and prosecuted as an adult. If the victim dies, that offense should amount to murder.’

John O’Sullivan, director of communications with St. Louis County Courts, told KSDK it is too early to determine if the suspect will be tried as an adult.

He says a court hearing is expected to be held in the next few weeks.

After news of the altercation broke, the Hazelwood School District released a statement condemning violence in the community.

“It is a tragedy every time children are harmed,” the statement read. ‘Bullying and fighting in society is an issue that we all need to take ownership of and work towards a solution for the sake of our children.

‘Hazelwood School District offers our deepest sympathies to all involved and will offer additional emotional support from our support and crisis team to those in need.’

The statement called on community members to respect the families of those involved and ‘commit to helping work towards the betterment of our entire community’.

The district recently came under fire for disenrolling more than three dozen middle school students in late February and early March.

The school district’s public relations director, Jordyn Elston, said STLPR that students were kicked out due to ‘expired residence information’.

Of the 40 students who received letters informing them of the district’s decision, 38 were re-enrolled within a week of providing updated information, the district said.

St. Louis County Police Department is investigating the incident.
