Missouri girl, four, dies from HEROIN overdose after ingesting drug her mother left lying around

A four-year-old Missouri girl died of a heroin overdose after ingesting the drug her mother left lying around.

Sanaa Riggins was found unresponsive at her family’s home in the 91000 block of Cozens Avenue Saturday evening around 6:30 p.m. Emergency personnel transported the child to St. Louis Children’s Hospital. He was pronounced dead an hour later, St Louis County police said.

The child’s mother, Christine Huntspon, 32, was arrested Sunday and charged with first-degree child endangerment resulting in death.

The police discovered a number of heroin capsules when they arrived at the home. The child’s mother admitted to using the deadly drug the morning of her child’s death and said her addiction likely caused her child’s death.

Huntspon is being held in the St. Louis County Jail on $500,000 cash-only bail, First alert News reported.

The child’s father, who had legal custody due to the mother’s dependence, lived in the same home as his family.

Huntspon, was open about her drug addiction and used drugs while she was pregnant with her daughter, officials said.

She reportedly told police she did not know of anyone else who brought drugs into the house.

Police said the child’s father showed no signs of drug use, according to the new outlet.
