A desperate search for a missing swimmer at a popular Byron Bay beach has resumed after being suspended due to nightfall, making efforts difficult.
Emergency services were called to Tallow Beach in Byron Bay, following reports a man had entered the water and was seen in distress before failing to resurface at around 3pm on Saturday.
The search involves police officers from the Tweed/Byron Police District as well as Surf Lifesavers, Marine Rescue NSW and a Queensland rescue helicopter.
A major search has been suspended for a man who was last seen swimming at a popular Byron Bay beach due to nightfall, making efforts difficult.
A NSW Police spokeswoman said the search was suspended at 6pm on Saturday, although the swimmer had not been found.
The search for the swimmer resumed the next morning, Sunday at 8 a.m.
Police are appealing to anyone who saw the man at this time. He is described as being of Caucasian appearance and aged in his 50s.
He was last seen wearing light-colored shorts.
