Laura Dundovic has revealed the difficult process she undergoes to treat her rare genetic disease.

The 36-year-old model and former Miss Universe Australia winner suffers from haemochromatosis, a genetic disorder in which the body absorbs too much iron from a person’s diet.

In an Instagram post, Laura gave her fans a glimpse into the process of draining blood to treat the condition and reduce her iron levels, which is called venesection.

“Two liters today. I just had my fourth and hopefully last month of bleeding before I can start donating every three months,” she wrote.

‘I’ll get my results next week, so I’ll keep you posted then.’

She added: “For those who are new here, I have a genetic disorder called haemochromatosis, where my body stores too much iron, so I have to do this to get my levels back to normal.”

Dundovic, who also starred in I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, previously said she was relieved to finally be able to get her health under control after years of battling the disorder.

“I’m finally understanding my body better and I’ve been feeling great these past few months,” she said.

“It’s been two years of confusion and then a year of work, because it takes a while to find what’s wrong. For two years it was just symptoms that no one can really put together, but this last year has been a real breakthrough.”

He undergoes the procedure every few months to remove excess iron.

To better control the situation, she recently started receiving monthly IVs during which 500 ml of blood is drained from her body.

“I’ve had it since I was 16, I store too much iron. It gets stored in the organs and the body goes into iron overload,” she said. The Daily Telegraph.

Laura previously revealed why 2023 was the worst year of her life.

She said Sunday Confidential She had spent the past 12 months battling multiple health issues and even discovered she suffered from a genetic disorder.

“Earlier this year I fell in Bali and it took me eight weeks for the injury to heal. Then it healed and I broke my toe,” she told the publication.

Things went from bad to worse when Laura was training for a marathon and tripped on the trail.

“It turned out I had a broken ankle. It took me three months to recover.”

Laura, who also suffered a car accident when her vehicle was hit by a bus, was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s, an autoimmune disease that can affect the thyroid gland.

Now that 2023 is behind her, Laura said she is feeling optimistic about what 2024 will bring.

“I’m going to take good care of myself. I’m a perfectionist, so I want to make sure that my priority is my mental health and that I take care of it,” she said.

She also told the publication that she hopes to find love in 2024 following her shock split from football star Quade Cooper in 2020.

The couple dated for five years before their split, and had been “locked down” for months before deciding to split, according to The Daily Telegraph.

Since rising to fame in the world of beauty pageants, Laura has maintained her position in the public eye by appearing on TV shows such as I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! and Dating In The Dark.

She is also a successful influencer and is known as one of Sydney’s most glamorous socialites.
