George the monkey had lived with a family in Houston, Texas for ten years, during which time he found viral fame thanks to countless adorable videos of him playing, eating and opening packages.

But on Wednesday, Jeff, those are… social media accounts, the “devastating news” announced that George has passed away due to complications following a procedure on his teeth.

George, who has 17.7 million TikTok followers, was adopted by Jeff’s mother-in-law as an emotional support animal to help her with CRPS, a painful nerve condition.

The 12-year-old capuchin has not only brought her comfort, but also a huge audience on social media.

And on Wednesday, those fans were crushed to learn that George had passed away unexpectedly.

“We have terrible news,” Jeff wrote in a video.

“George went to the vet for a regular check-up of his teeth. During the anesthesia, there were complications, which started a long fight for his life.

“Throughout the fight, George had thousands of thoughts and prayers in the hopes that he would make it.
