A man has been arrested on charges of fatally shooting his ex-wife and her new partner at their million-dollar mansion on Long Island.
Daniel Coppola, 50, allegedly shot and killed Kelly Coppola, also 50, and Kenneth Pohlman, 53, as they slept in their St. James home shortly before midnight Wednesday night.
Detective Lt. Kevin Breyer said the couple’s teenage daughter was inside the home before the incident, but was given a warning by her father.
“The daughter was in the house and he approached her and told her to get out of the house,” he said.
The alleged attacker and his ex-wife (pictured together) are known to have recently gone through a bitter divorce.
Kenneth Pohlman, 53 (pictured), was shot dead alongside his partner in their home while they were in bed.
“He picked up the girl, put her in his car, committed the murders, drove her from there to Harbor Road. While he was driving her, she was communicating with her friends via text messages saying, ‘I don’t know what my father did. I don’t know how my mother is.’ They tried to contact the mother, but they couldn’t do so, they called 911,” he said.
Coppola was arrested and is undergoing mental evaluation after making suicidal comments, according to the New York Post.
It is known that the alleged attacker and his ex-wife had recently gone through a bitter divorce.
The victims shared a six-bedroom, four-bathroom home valued at $1.1 million in affluent Suffolk County on Long Island, New York.
Breyer described it as a “tragic incident.”
“Kenny was a dear friend of my ex-husband and was one of the nicest people you could ever meet,” a friend said after the announcement.
Pohlman is known to have three children who have now been orphaned after their mother died of cancer.
Daniel and Kelly share a 15-year-old daughter, who alerted her friends that her father was acting erratically and may have hurt her mother.

Just hours before the incident, Coppola went on a Facebook rant, complaining about gender pronouns and announcing her support for Donald Trump.
“Do your job as a man, woman, transgender, etc. I don’t know, but you don’t need to include it in your email signature. I’m tired of this shit,” she said.
‘Maybe I should say Trump/him in my signature line!’
