Generation Z and Millennials have claimed that their childhoods are ruined after learning what the Macarena lyrics really mean.
Released in 1993, Los Del Río’s Spanish song became an instant dance floor anthem and was played at every wedding, birthday party and school disco in an attempt to get people having fun.
But while kids jumped to the lyrics and swayed their hips, those who grew up in the ’90s and early ’90s are surprised to discover the true meaning of the sassy song.
The most listened to Macarena is actually a remix of the original song, which was performed solely by Antonio Romero Monge and Rafael Ruiz Perdigones of Los Del Río.
The British Jake Randall posted a TikTok dancing to the lyrics in Spanish, until Carla started singing in English and his face fell off.
It was remixed by the Bayside Boys and Colombian-American singer Carla Vanessa sings the verses in English.
However, it seems that many were too busy focusing on their dancing skills instead of listening to the lyrics.
In fact, La Macarena is very spicy and is about a young woman who has a threesome with her boyfriend’s best friends while he is away.
In the verse, Carla sings: ‘But don’t worry about my boyfriend, he’s a boy called Vitorino, I don’t love him, I couldn’t stand him, I wasn’t any good then (hahahaha), now Come on, what was I supposed to do ? He was out of town and his two friends were doing great.
But in the original version of the song by Los Del Rio, her boyfriend was absent because he had been drafted into the army.
The Spanish loosely translates to “Macarena has a boyfriend whose last name is Vitorino, and when he left to join the army he saw her with two of his friends.”
However, in another part of the song, Macarena also “dreams” of buying modern clothes at El Corte Inglés, one of the largest department stores in Spain.
She would also like to move to New York and “seduce a new boyfriend.”
Released in 1993, it was the Spanish song by Los Del Río that got everyone on the dance floor as soon as it was played.
Elizabeth DeVasto joked that 12-year-olds were “excited about adultery”
While kids would be amused by the lyrics, those who grew up in the ’90s and early ’90s may be surprised to discover the true meaning of the sassy song.
The video racked up almost 250,000 likes and people commented on their thoughts on the reveal.
The chorus translates as: ‘Give joy to your body, Macarena, because your body is destined to receive joy and good things, give joy to your body Macarena, Hello Macarena!’

His face suddenly falls when he realizes that the Macarena is about a threesome and cheating.
