Mikel Arteta has given an update on Bukayo Saka’s progress after the Arsenal winger sparked injury concerns when he limped off the pitch in England’s defeat to Greece.

The Gunners star has had an electric start to the season, scoring two goals and assisting seven times as the north London side compete with Liverpool and Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.

But he had the hearts in Arsenal fans’ mouths last week when he walked off the Wembley pitch during the Three Lions’ humiliating 2-1 defeat at the hands of 48th-placed Greece.

It later emerged that he had been forced to withdraw with a thigh problem and then withdrew from the team ahead of England’s victory over Finland on Sunday.

Now his club coach has revealed the extent of the injury and it is good news for Gunners fans.

He told a news conference on Friday: “It’s not a serious injury.

‘It is evolving very well. He’s done a few things in the last two days. Obviously he was not in a position to play the second game with the national team.

‘But we have hope. We have a training session this afternoon, he did some things yesterday, so let’s see if he can make it on time.

Arteta also provided updates on several other players who have suffered knocks, as injuries continue to cause him headaches this campaign.

Kai Havertz is struggling to recover from a knee problem that caused him to miss Germany’s Nations League matches.

The Spanish coach said: “He had some problems and we have been dealing with that.” It’s been absolutely brilliant. He has very good communication with the team, with the coach, and he understood the situation.

“Again, if he trains well today, he has a good chance of being fit and available.”

Meanwhile, Gabriel Martinelli was another casualty of international duty when he suffered a calf problem while away with Brazil, piling more injuries on Arteta.

The coach revealed that the winger only returned on Thursday and has only participated in light training.
