Mike Tyson has proudly backed the West Coast Eagles after taking a jump shot from AFL legend Nic Naitanui ahead of his fight with Jake Paul.

Former Eagles ruckman Nic Nat shared an image of the heavyweight boxing legend holding up the blue and yellow jersey on Wednesday night, with Iron Mike preparing to face his rival internet personality in July.

“Iron @MikeTyson got his wings today before his fight with @jakepaul,” the former football star said on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The boxing champion is not the only high-profile figure to pledge allegiance to the Eagles: former US president Barack Obama also proudly held the jumper a few years ago.

However, his team is not doing so well this season and is stuck in 16th position in the 18-team league, with two wins in nine games.

Tyson’s return to the ring has taken fans by surprise, particularly as he faces an opponent: 27-year-old Paul, 30 years his junior.

“I really like Jake a lot, but once he’s in that ring, he has to fight like his life depends on it because it will,” Tyson said at a news conference in New York on Tuesday.

The pair will meet in a professional heavyweight fight, which will be contested over eight two-minute rounds.

Iron Mike is considered one of the greatest boxers of all time and has shared the ring with Lennox Lewis, Evander Holyfield and Larry Holmes.

Paul’s entry into boxing has not been without controversy, as the divisive internet figure largely takes on rookie and retired MMA fighters.

He has faced former UFC champions Anderson Silva and Tyron Woodley, and has only one loss in the ring: against Tyson Fury’s younger brother Tommy in Saudi Arabia.
