Mika Stojsavljevic heading back to reality as 15-year-old heads straight back to school after winning US Open girls’ title

Winning a Grand Slam is one way to end the summer break, but Mika Stojsavljevic now has to get back into the swing of things and start his 11th year.

“I’ll be back on Sunday and then back to school,” said the 15-year-old, who won the US Open women’s title, the first British winner since Heather Watson in 2009.

“I have my GCSE exams this year and obviously it’s important to get them done.”

Stojsavljevic, from Ealing, west London, attends Loughborough Amhurst School, which has links with the LTA National Academy, where he is educated.

When asked how his classmates would react to his success, he replied: “In our school, there are only tennis players in our class.”

‘They have very small classrooms to make sure everything is focused on us.

“I think it will be easier to be around tennis people, but at school it might be a little different.”

Asked which players she looked up to growing up, the 1.80m-tall Stojsavljevic said: ‘Maria Sharapova and Novak Djokovic have always been my idols.
