Distraught neighbours have described the moment a woman died on a quiet rural street after allegedly being stabbed by her partner.
Emergency crews were called to Spina Street in Mighell, south of Innisfail in northern Queensland, at approximately 4.15pm on Friday.
A 51-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed in the abdomen and called out to neighbours for help while screaming from the street before she died.
His partner Floyd Tomarra is accused of fleeing the scene before crashing his car into a truck on Bruce Highway in Sandy Pocket.
A chase ensued and Tomarra allegedly attempted to kidnap a woman.
He fled into surrounding bushland before being arrested at around 6pm and taken to Innisfail Hospital for treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
He was later transferred to Cairns Hospital where he continues to be treated.
Tomarra has been charged with one count of murder and more charges are expected to be filed.
Police were seen searching a crime scene at a home on nearby Scullen Avenue, where residents said they were “shocked” by the incident.

“The poor lady that passed away, she passed away in my driveway,” said one resident who wishes to remain anonymous. mail.
Local resident Lance Sulter described the neighborhood as a quiet street.
“Honestly, all the kids play here and I put a basketball hoop in front,” he said.
Acting Detective Inspector Alina Bell said Tomarra and the alleged victim are believed to know each other and have a de facto relationship.
“The man was previously believed to be living at that address but is not currently living there,” Inspector Bell said.
He also praised the efforts of witnesses who intervened to provide first aid to the seriously injured woman.

“Every attempt was made to resuscitate the woman at the scene but unfortunately were unsuccessful,” Bell said.
‘Any event where someone loses their life is a tragic situation and there are a number of support services available to the people involved and the wider community.’
‘If you know someone affected by family domestic violence, we recommend that you report it to the police and seek support services.’
Tomarra is expected to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on Monday.
