A Michigan high school has come under fire for telling instructors to hide from parents that their son is transgender since the student realized he was in school.

That statement from the staff of Richards Middle in Fraser, a small town just outside Detroit, came in the form of an email sent to instructors this month ahead of the school’s parent teacher conferences.

In the email obtained by Fox newsInstructors were told not to tell the student’s parents about the change in the student’s gender identification, prompting the youths to request to be tagged as female.

The message, written by a school counselor, reportedly warned teachers ahead of the conferences to only use the student’s “birth name” and “refer to the pronoun “he” when talking to the student’s mother.

During In the letter, the counselor reportedly refers to the student by their chosen feminine name and pronouns, telling the teachers that the parent is still unaware of this transition.

It comes as public sSchools in the state now allow children who identify as transgender to use their favorite names and pronouns without the parents’ knowledge, with officials a recent federal law prohibiting gender discrimination in schools.
