Initial claims for unemployment benefits in Michigan increased last week compared to the previous week, the US Department of Labor he said Thursday.

New jobless claims, an indicator of layoffs, rose to 5,120 in the week ending April 27, up from 4,824 the previous week, the Labor Department said.

U.S. jobless claims were flat at 208,000 last week on a seasonally adjusted basis.

New Hampshire saw the largest percentage increase in weekly claims, with a 103.7% increase. Meanwhile, Rhode Island saw the largest percentage drop in new claims, with a 65.3% drop.
