Michelle looked radiant at the event after previously revealing that she didn’t go a day without alcohol for three years before entering rehab in April.

Michelle admitted the hardest part of her journey was going to rehab while performing on Loose Women, saying: “It’s the first step and the hardest part is admitting that you have a problem and that you powerless against drugs and alcohol.

She explained that it wasn’t a “specific event” that got her into rehab, but that she ended up being “locked up on her own, lying and manipulating situations.”

Michelle revealed: ‘I got really sick, it was a five year process. For about three years it kind of got a hold of me, I was happy with my addiction.’

“Sometimes it’s hard to say you have an addiction, because sometimes it feels nice, that’s the reality of it, it [alcohol] was my friend in need.

Every feeling, sad, happy, the sun is shining, a party – every excuse. About a year and a half ago it really affected me.’

“My husband and friends tried an intervention to get me into rehab.”

‘Three months ago I stood on the death door, I got a few days’ [to live]. I was so sick that I had lost so much weight, my skin was translucent, my belly was swollen and hard. I was sick, so I could drink more. I would feel happy so I could drink more. It controlled everything I did.

‘For the past three years I have never had a day off from alcohol, a drink or anything, last September I was in hospital with a failed pancreatic and liver disease.

‘It didn’t look good, even then I couldn’t stop. I was told that if I kept going I would die, but I still didn’t stop. Nothing mattered, my skin, I could see my veins, my skin itched, I was scarred.

‘My hair is gone, this isn’t mine, it was put in by my hairdresser. The good news is that the liver is recovering, it’s a great organ. It will recover, but not forget.

“I’m under no illusions, one drink and I could be right back where I was, if not worse.”

Michelle admitted that Hugh, with whom she shares children Faith, nine, and Aaron, seven, has been her “rock.”
