Michel scores 3 TD & # 39; s, Patriots roll past Chargers 41-28

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) – Sony Michel ran for 129 yards and had three touchdowns and the New England Patriots beat the Los Angeles Chargers 41-28 in the playoffs division on Sunday to earn their eighth straight journey to the AFC championship game.

New England (12-5) will play in Kansas City in next week's AFC title match. The Patriots beat the Chiefs 43-40 in Foxborough in week 6. The Patriots ended this season at home 9-0.

It is the 13th game appearance of the congress championship by the Patriots during the Tom Brady-Bill Belichick era.

"It will be a good game," said Brady about the second chance with the Chiefs. "They are a good team, we played them earlier this year, I know everyone thinks we're smoking and, you know, we can not win games, so we'll see." It will be fun. "

The chargers (13-5) have not yet reached the AFC title game since the 2007 season.

Quarterback Philip Rivers ended 25 of 51 for 331 yards, three touchdowns and an interception. He is 0-5 in games played in Foxborough, including 0-3 in the & # 39; postseason & # 39;

Brady finished 34 out of 44 for 343 yards and a touchdown. He improves to 8-0 as a starter against Rivers, who beats all-time with 1-8 against New England.

James White tied Darren Sproles & # 39; NFL & # 39; postseason & # 39; record with 15 catches, totaling 97 yards.

New England scored on the first four possessions of the game to build a lead of 35.7 half-times.

Julian Edelman had nine catches for 150 meters.

The Chargers added three touchdowns in the second half, but it was far too late.

Los Angeles lost for the second time in a row (8-2) and the first time outside Los Angeles this season. In the last four trips to the playoffs, Los Angeles lost in the division round.

"We dug ourselves a hole in the first half," Chargers trainer Anthony Lynn said. "One game does not define where we are as a football team."

Rivers seemed ready to keep Los Angeles in the game, and connected with Keenan Allen for a 43-yard score on Los Angeles' first offensive possession. It was the longest landing of Allen & # 39; s career, including the & # 39; postseason & # 39;

It turned out to be just a blip. The chargers kicked the other four times they had the ball in the first half.

The Patriots were efficient during the opening of 30 minutes, going from 5 to 5 in the red zone, 5 from 6 on the third down and only one penalty.

New England did not go three-and-out for the first time until the fifth offensive of the day it left at 3:32 in the second quarter.

But Ryan's 48-yard run was tinkered by Desmond King, which rolled the ball to the margin. The referees ruled that the ball went out of bounds before Albert McClellan from New England seemed to recover. But the game was reversed after a challenge from Bill Belichick.

The turnover turned out to be expensive, with the patriots who scored only four games later when Michel passed the goal line of 5 yards for his third half landing.

New England started the run early, causing big holes in a Charger defense that ended the regular season in ninth place in the NFL, allowing only 106 rushing yards per game.

Michel carried 16 times for 105 yards in the first half.

He set the tone early, scored from 1 yard on the opening possession of the game. It covered a 14-play, 83-yard drive in which he raced five times for 15 yards and had a 9-yard reception.

The patriots added scoring discs of 67, 58, 87 and 35 yards.

MILESTONES

Michel became the second rookie of the Patriots in the franchise history to make a quick step in the & # 39; postseason & # 39 ;. He joined fellow Georgia alum, Robert Edwards, who rushed to a touchdown as Newbie's Newbie's wildcard loss in 1998 to Jacksonville.

Michel also became the first New England player with two rushing TDs in the first quarter of a playoff game since LeGarrette Blount did in the 2013 divisional match against Indianapolis.

Brady expanded his & # 39; postseason & # 39; record with its 15-hour transient game over 300 yards. The next is Peyton Manning with nine.

streaking

Brady has a touchdown pass in 13 straight postseason-games, linked to the third longest series since 1950. Only Brett Favre (20) and Brady himself (18 of 2001-11) have longer stripes.

INJURIES

Chargers: Safety Adrian Phillips was helped with an arm injury early in the first quarter of the field, but returned. Recipient Mike Williams jogged off the field after a collision in the first quarter.

Patriots: Guard Shaq Mason left the game in the fourth quarter.
