- Michail Antonio returns after comments made before the Liverpool match
- The West Ham striker admits he was wrong, but still got into the minds of Reds fans
- Listen to the latest episode of the Mail Sport podcast ‘It all begins’
Michail Antonio has finally broken his silence on his Liverpool jibes, claiming he still truly ‘won the game’ with the fans.
The West Ham striker made headlines by widely boasting about his club’s fortunes ahead of the Anfield game last month, during an episode of The footballer’s football podcast.
Antonio boldly predicted that the Hammers would beat then unbeaten Liverpool and ultimately finish above the Reds in the Premier League.
However, after David Moyes’ side were beaten 3-1 by Liverpool, Antonio failed to appear on the next episode of the show, with co-host Callum Wilson keen to highlight the striker’s disappointing statistics about his performances on Merseyside told.
However, Antonio has now recovered and claims his absence was due to a setup by his podcast team, rather than him disappearing from the show.

“All I’m saying is y’all are acting like I’ve been avoiding (the podcast), I’ve been busy.” Antonio explained.
‘Then I messaged Darren – because Darren is the guy who arranges all this, yeah – I was like ‘I’m free this day’, he says ‘no, we did it last night’. Okay okay. You just wanted the sauce with me. It is well.’
After making his case, the 33-year-old addressed his comments ahead of the Liverpool game and was happy to admit he got his prediction wrong.
Admitting: ‘I got a big pie in the face, yeah, that’s no problem. I do not worry. It is what it is. I would do it again – I will do it again!
‘We started the match well and had a few good chances. If I took my chance, I think the game would have been different with the lead we had, and we would probably hold on to it, because what we do know is how to hold on to a lead.”
However, the Jamaican International still had the final say on the matter, claiming that even though West Ham lost the match, he still ‘won the match’, due to the obsessed fans became with him and the comments he made.

And he added, “I swear to God, if we had won that game, some would have come to my house!” If we had won that game I was so in the minds of the Liverpool fans that they would have come to my house. It was madness. It went everywhere.
‘The number of messages I got from Liverpool fans all week after the game. I probably won the game even though I didn’t win, because how am I still in your head? I’m still getting messages today!’
The Hammers are in the Europa League tonight when they travel to Freiburg, Germany, before taking on Newcastle at the London Stadium this weekend.
