New Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. has announced his engagement to girlfriend Olivia Carter.
It’s another huge milestone for the 24-year-old, who replaced Kirk Cousins as the Falcons’ starting quarterback earlier in December.
Penix shared a video of the engagement and wrote, “I will love you forever. I can’t wait to live with you.’
The video shows the stunning efforts Penix went to to impress his partner. He had flowers at the ready and large letters that read “MARRY ME,” leaving Carter at a loss for words.
In his first game for the Falcons, Penix led his team to a victory over the New York Giants with a 34–7 win.
He completed 18 of 27 passes for 202 yards and had just one interception to keep the Falcons in the playoff hunt.
Penix’s next test comes later this weekend against the Washington Commanders on Sunday Night Football.
The Falcons took Penix Jr. with the eighth pick of this year’s NFL Draft – a surprising move considering they had already signed Cousins to a lucrative four-year, $180 million deal.
With Cousins struggling in the current season and the Falcons having a real chance to make the playoffs, head coach Raheem Morris made the bold decision to sign Penix Jr. with three regular season games remaining.
“We dug as much as we could to get everything working,” Morris explained.
“We wanted to play better at QB and we felt like we had a chance to play better.”
