Tito Jackson told his friend Terry Harvey Maltbia that he “couldn’t breathe” and “didn’t feel good” moments before he was rushed to a New Mexico hospital, where he later died of a heart attack.
Maltbia, who is also Jackson’s business partner, told DailyMail.com that he and the singer were in Gallup, New Mexico and stopped for lunch before getting back on the road and heading to Jackson’s ranch in Oklahoma.
Maltbia, Jackson and another friend, Ronald Balfour, were on a road trip to California, where the trio planned to pick up Jackson’s vintage cars at his home.
“We just finished eating turkey and chicken, laughing and talking,” Maltbia said. “We were putting the top on the convertible because it started to rain.”
“That’s when Tito went back to the passenger side window and said, ‘My chest hurts. “Can you help Ronnie finish the hood?”
“He said, ‘My chest doesn’t feel good.’ He wiped his face, took off his shirt, and it was like someone threw a bucket of water on him.”
Tito was taken to the hospital and Maltbia remembers: ‘They took me there and I looked at him.’
