Michael started the video with: ‘How is everyone? We’ve had a pretty rough start to this new year.’
‘I don’t live in Los Angeles, but I know the city well. And this is just a nightmarish tragedy. “There’s nothing that I could understand, probably anyone else,” he continued.
He added: “I know some people talked about movie stars who lost their homes, but a lot of people who lost their homes too.” People who work in the industry. People who earn an hourly wage. Republicans and Democrats,” Michael said.
‘It’s a huge, huge number of people who lost their homes and may not have any insurance. I know most of you are aware of this, so what are you going to do? My father Kirk (Douglas) and stepmother have a foundation and I asked the board to make a contribution that I will match. So I’m going to try to get things going there,” he added.
‘We will donate our contributions to the American Red Cross. But I hope everyone across the country. It’s not about blue states or red states. Republicans or Democrats. This is humanitarian. And this really is a major crisis.”
‘So please, whenever you can, try to help everyone. We are focusing on the Red Cross,” he concludes his video.
The Douglas Foundation was created by Kirk and Anne in 1964, with the goal of making healthcare, arts and education more accessible to the citizens of California, according to the website.
Michael and his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones currently split their time between Bermuda and Europe, after putting their New York home on the market last summer.
They lived in a huge Irvington, New York, mansion that was 11,653 square feet, but they put it up for sale after their children Dylan, 24, and Carys, 21, moved out.
