Michael C. Hall just can’t seem to escape the killer inside him.
The 53-year-old Golden Globe winner was announced to be returning to the Dexter franchise for two upcoming series when he appeared on a panel Friday at San Diego Comic-Con.
He will reprise his lead role in the upcoming sequel series Dexter: Resurrection for Paramount+ with Showtime.
The show has been ordered straight to series.
Hall will also join the cast of the prequel series Dexter: Original Sin as the inner voice of young Dexter, played by Patrick Gibson.
It was announced that Michael C. Hall will be returning to the Dexter franchise for two upcoming series when he appeared at a panel Friday at San Diego Comic-Con.
Resurrection will pick up Dexter in the present day, while Original Sin is set during his early years as a cop in the ’90s.
“We are thrilled to have the brilliant Michael C. Hall reprise his iconic role as Dexter Morgan on Showtime’s most successful series,” Paramount Chairman and Global Co-CEO Chris McCarthy said in a statement.
“While Dexter: Resurrection will appeal to tens of millions of longtime fans, Dexter: Original Sin will introduce a new generation of viewers to this iconic series by starting from the beginning, which is sure to satisfy existing audiences as well,” he added.

When Showtime ordered the show into straight-to-production last year, the official synopsis said the show would “dramatize young Dexter Morgan at the beginning of his transition into the vengeful serial killer he would become.”

Last month, Patrick Dempsey and Sarah Michelle Gellar joined the cast of the prequel series, which also stars Christian Slater and Christina Milian.
While production on Original Sin is still ongoing, the show is expected to premiere in December.

The sequel series was also announced alongside the prequel, following “the continued appearance of Dexter’s son Harrison,” who was previously revealed to be battling his own Dark Passenger.
The show will see Harrison on the run to New York City following the events of the Dexter: New Blood miniseries finale in 2022.
Hall starred on Showtime’s Dexter for its eight-season run from 2006 to 2013, playing the titular forensic investigator who works as a vigilante serial killer, targeting murderers who have escaped the justice system.
