Richards feels he has won Keane’s respect after last season’s ‘burst on scene’ exchange
“Roy is a legend of the game and when I start working with someone at first I don’t get nervous – I never get nervous – but you respect people and that’s the way it should be,” Richards said. ‘I’ve seen his clips and he destroyed people left, right and center.
“ The first clip that made the rounds was where I said I was going to come on the scene as a defender, that’s the one that went viral, and he said he didn’t know any defenders who had come on the scene.
‘I said wait a minute I’m the youngest defender ever for England, won the Premier League and won the FA Cup’ and at that point he was like, ‘OK’ – I deserved a little bit of his respect .

‘After that I loved working with him, because I can never compete with Roy Keane as a player, or his medals, but I can make him feel uncomfortable in front of the camera, and that’s my strength.’
Richards recently found himself in the middle of a heated on-air debate between Keane and Jamie Redknapp ahead of Tottenham’s match against Burnley, and the former Manchester City star has shed some light on why Keane had the bump.
“He was driving to London, but he was late,” Richards said.
‘Normally he gets there an hour or an hour and a half early, but he got stuck in a traffic jam and he got there 20 minutes before he took to the air and you could see his hair was all wavy along with his suit.
“Jamie just got his anger for being an hour later than he should have been and he got the anger!”
