Micah Richards has charged defender Arsenal for postponing the North London derby and said any other Premier League team would have done the same.

Arsenal asked for the game to be rescheduled as they were missing players due to positive Covid cases, injuries, suspension and international commitments at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Mikel Arteta’s request to cancel the game was approved by the Premier League on Friday afternoon. However, the decision did not go down well with Spurs.

Tottenham accused the Premier League of inconsistency, suggesting that the original intent of the Covid postponement rules was now being abused.

A statement from Spurs said: “We are extremely surprised that this application has been approved. We ourselves were disqualified from the Euopean Conference League after a significant number of Covid cases meant we had to reschedule a match and our application to move our Leicester match was not approved but was then postponed when Leicester signed up.

Fans and pundits were also quick to criticize Arsenal for the decision. Richards, however, came into the defense of the North London club.
