American top seed Jessica Pegula continued to make the most of her home advantage as she defeated Magda Linette to reach the quarter-finals of the Miami Open.
Pegula lives about 30 minutes north of Hard Rock Stadium – he drives to the field every day – and made a quick start against veteran Pole Linette, leading 5-0 in the space of 20 minutes before quickly finishing off the first set.
Linette, though, regrouped with a two-second break to look like he was forcing the decider when leading 5-2.
However, Pegula, a quarter-finalist at the Australian Open, went deep to put the rematch back in her favor with a streak of five straight matches to complete an impressive 6-1, 7-5 victory.
“I love playing on that field, being at home in Florida, on a soccer field, it’s amazing in every way,” Pegula said in her Amazon Prime Video interview.

She’s a really good competitor and she won’t let me win easily.
“I raised her level a bit (in the second set) and my level started to drop, and then I started to be more aggressive and get into the rhythm again and I was able to play a few games.”
Pegula faces Russia’s Anastasia Potapova, ranked 26th in the world, who defeated China’s Chenwen Zheng 6-4, 7-6 (4). The duo met in the third round in Indian Wells, where Pegula came off in three sets.
Italian Martina Trevisan also advanced in straight sets after defeating 2017 French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko 6-3 6-3, while Romanian Sorana Cirstea beat Marketa Vondrousova 7-6 (3) 6-4 to book her place in the quarter-finals.
