The unnamed woman was taken to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital, officers said — and listed her condition as stable. Police said four of her children, all under 21 and from previous relationships, were home at the time but were not injured.

“This is clearly a suicide at this point,” Zabaleta said as he appeared at a news conference in the suburb.

He added that the incident was ‘not necessarily a domestic attempted murder-suicide’ and that the man simply took his own life and ‘almost took his girlfriend’s in the process’.

He concluded: ‘Everything indicates at this point that the same projectile that hit his head was also the one that hit the woman.’
