Police are searching for a man suspected of stabbing a Mexico fan, leaving him in critical condition, after sickening violence erupted in the stands during the country’s Gold Cup clash with Qatar.
The victim was left with blood running down her face and chest, while some stairs were painted crimson, as violence escalated at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara.
Grim video footage shows a dozen Mexico supporters fighting among themselves in a 1-0 loss to Qatar on Sunday night when a man approaches the fight, brandishing what appears to be a knife over his head. He pushes him into the group of fans before being thrown to the ground.
As the fight continues, the victim staggers along the catwalk and slumps into a seat, stripping off his shirt and noticing blood seeping down his chest.
Police say he remains in a critical but stable condition.

According to eyewitnesses, the fight between fans lasted around 10 minutes, with the fan using water and his Mexico jersey to try to stop the bleeding near his shoulder.
Police have already identified a suspect, and another person of interest, and are asking the public to help locate them.
The alleged cutler he is described as between the ages of 25 and 35, with short dark hair and a thin mustache and beard.
He was last seen wearing a green Mexico jersey and police say he fled the area after the stabbing.
The person of interest, meanwhile, was described as a dark-haired woman wearing a similar T-shirt from Mexico.
Santa Clara police urge anyone who recognizes the couple to contact them and not try to stop them.

A panicked supporter appears to point officers in the direction of the suspect, who fled the scene.
Supporters filmed the fight in which blows were exchanged, drinks were thrown, stairs were covered in blood, supporters were thrown to the ground and others were dragged before police arrived on the scene.
A clip then pans out to show the victim with blood running down his face and chest and a large gaping wound near his neck.
He can be seen pouring water on the wound before wearing his Mexico jersey to try to stop the bleeding, while panicked fans appear to point police towards the attacker.
The officers then took the victim away on the way to the hospital, with witnesses later accusing security of being ‘lax’ and failing to search the bags.
In a joint statement from Levi’s Stadium and CONCACAF they said that “ensuring the safety of our guests is our top priority.”
They added that they are cooperating with the police and wish the victim a speedy recovery.
