This is when the Mexican army opened fire on a cartel-stricken team sent to kill them, on top of an armored truck during a high-speed chase.

The incident occurred last Friday morning when a convoy of the 16th Motorized Cavalry was attacked in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas by the infamous Tropa del Infierno (Gang from Hell) – a hit squad tied to the Cártel del Noreste (Northeast Cartel).

At least 16 gang members died in the conflict, while the military said none of their members had been injured.

The military said it was monitoring the Fresnos area, a 10-mile drive from the Juárez-Lincoln International Bridge, which connects the United States and Mexico across the Rio Grande, when troops were fired upon by gang members using military weapons .

The troops responded with their own attack during the rapid pursuit of the gang’s pickup while other vehicles were driving on the road.

An assault rifle placed between two metal protection panels releases a hail of bullets. At one point, Tropa del Infierno members made a U-turn on the highway before the soldier moved his weapon and hit the side of the gang members’ fleeing vehicle.

A photo filtered on social media showed several dead Tropa del Infierno members lying on the floor of an unknown location wearing military uniforms.

Additional images leaked on social media showed the bodies of the first 12 cartel members who died. A few of them were found on the back of a pickup truck.

Several other Tropa del Infierno accomplices were photographed on the side of the road.

Army officials reported no casualties or injuries on their part after the bellicose battle. At least three military vehicles were damaged in the attack.

Soldiers recovered 12 assault rifles, including two Barrett .50 caliber sniper rifles and eight AR-15 rifles.

The Cártel del Noreste was founded in 2014 as a sub-division under the then powerful criminal organization Los Zetas and is headed by Juan Gerardo ‘El Huevo’ Treviño Chavez.

The criminal organization is present in the northeastern states of Coahuila, Tamaulipas, Nuevo León and the north-central states of San Luis Potosí and Zacatecas.

The Tamaulipa prosecutors are offering a $ 100,000 reward for information that led to his arrest.
