Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum will wait until all votes in the US election are finalized before recognizing Donald Trump as the winner.
Sheinbaum, who took office last month, told reporters at his daily news conference at the National Palace in Mexico City on Wednesday that he preferred to wait until several states completed vote counting.
‘There is news that President Trump won, but we are going to wait, in any case, until today for some states to finish counting and we can make the official announcement,’ Sheinbaum said.
‘We will still wait until today to see how the remaining states progress, and also the position of both candidates, President Trump has already expressed, but it is prudent to wait,’ he added.

The President of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, celebrated Donald Trump’s victory as the Republican candidate’s lead over Vice President Kamala Harris increased.
Sheinbaum allayed existing fears by telling residents and business owners they had no reason to worry.
‘Mexico always advances, we are a free, independent, sovereign country and there will be a good relationship with the United States, of that I am convinced,’ she stated.
While Sheinbaum waited for the remaining votes to be counted, some of his peers in Latin America were already congratulating him.
“It smells like a new president in the United States and it’s @realDonaldTrump,” El Salvador President Nayib Bukele wrote on X Thursday night as Trump began sweeping the battleground states.
When it became clear that Harris had no chance of overcoming Trump’s considerable lead, Bukele returned to X celebrating Trump.
‘Congratulations to the President-elect of the United States of America, @realDonaldTrump,’ he wrote while posting an emoji of the American flag. ‘May God bless you and guide you.’
Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro defended Trump’s victory with a lengthy rant Wednesday morning, alluding to Trump’s claims of election fraud four years ago.
‘Today we witness the resurgence of a true warrior. A man who, even after facing a brutal electoral process in 2020 and unjustifiable judicial persecution, has resurfaced, like few in history have managed to do,’ he wrote in X.
‘Against all opposition from globalists and the deep state, @realdonaldtrump will return to the Presidency of the United States of America to complete his mission: restore the greatness of his nation, protect the interests of his people, and work for a world that is more free, more peaceful and safer.
