Mets promote RHP Jonah Tong to Double-A Binghamton

He Mets They have promoted another of their young arms.

Less than a month after they promoted Brandon Sproat To Triple-A Syracuse, the Mets are now promoting the right-hander Jonah Tong to Double-A Binghamton, the Rumble Ponies officially announced via a press release on Sunday.

The promotion comes after Tong has dominated both levels of the A-League. The 21-year-old pitched to a 6-4 record and 3.04 ERA in 21 starts this season. But it’s his strikeouts that are truly impressive.

He struck out 36 batters in 18.2 innings with Port St. Lucie before going to Brooklyn and sitting down 110 batters in 85 innings.

Tong, the Mets’ No. 10 prospect according to MLB Pipeline, has had five games with eight-plus strikeouts, including two in double digits with the Brooklyn Cyclones. He’ll now test his skills in Double-A.
