Mets grant Jiman Choi's request to be released from Triple-A Syracuse

He Mets announced on Friday night that they had granted the release of Jiman Choi from Triple-A Syracuse.

Choi, who signed a minor league contract with the Mets in February, had an option to opt out of his contract on June 1. The slugger competed for a roster spot as the Mets’ left-handed designated hitter after spring training, but won the job. DJ Stewart.

In 26 games with Syracuse, Choi was 16-for-84 (.190) with four home runs and 12 RBI.

Choi, 31, played with the Pirates and Padres in 2023. In 39 games, Choi hit .163/.239/.385, hit six home runs and drove in 13 runs.
