A signal failure on Thursday morning caused major delays on Melbourne’s rail network.
All trains were stopped at all stations in the city from about 4:45 a.m. Thursday, but were cleared to continue their route about 30 minutes later.
Commuters experienced delays of up to an hour at first, but that time was reduced to about 15 minutes as rush hour approached.
Metro Trains urged passengers to allow extra travel time as some trains changed their usual stopping patterns or were cancelled.
The only route that continued to operate with a “good service” was the Baxter-Stoney Point line, along the Mornington Peninsula.
Remaining services in Melbourne were affected by “minor delays”, while services on the Lilydale line were cancelled from 8.12am.
Melbourne commuters have been told to expect delays on Thursday morning after a signal fault caused all trains to stop at stations.
