Meta’s text-based chat feature for horizon worlds It will be available to all users starting this week, Meta said in a blog post on Tuesday.. Text chat, which Meta calls “world chat,” offers a way to communicate with other people within a horizon worlds experience without using your voice. Meta first launched world chat on a limited basis in June.
The world chat feature can be accessed from the options you can choose when you raise your left wrist while in VR; It’s a small world icon inside a dialog box. And to make text chatting a little easier, Meta says it offers quick replies so you don’t have to take the time to manually spell out messages, which can be a big pain in VR.
Unfortunately, I don’t have access to world chat yet, so I can’t guarantee how well it might work or how useful it might be. And I’m not sure if it’s a feature exclusive to the VR version of horizon worlds or if it is also available for the recently released web and mobile versions, but I asked Meta to clarify.
Last year, The Wall Street Journal reported that horizon worlds has been struggling to retain users, but Meta has been improving the social gaming landscape with features like world chat, improved moderation tools, and avatar paws. For me, horizon worlds still has a long way to go to compete with similar social apps like Roblox either fortnitebut it’s getting better.
