Former Arsenal and Real Madrid playmaker Mesut Ozil could step into esports after the end of his football career, his agent has sensationally claimed.

Ozil’s nightmare at Fenerbahce appears to be coming to an end after the club’s new manager Jorge Jesus said the 34-year-old Germany international would no longer play for them.

He has not played in Turkey’s Super Lig since March 20 after being banned from the squad following an argument with interim head coach Ismail Kartal over his fitness.

Kartal didn’t get the managerial job permanently, but Jesus has promised to follow in his footsteps and keep Ozil, who earns £350,000 a week at Fenerbahce, away from the base.

Ozil’s turmoil in Turkey has forced him to look to the next steps in his career – and his agent Dr. Erkut Sogut has revealed that he can trade football for Fortnite.

‘He will get more into eSports, play himself and maybe become an eSports athlete’ Sogut told The Telegraph.

Erkut Sogut, Ozil's agent, said his client could get into esports at the end of his career.

“He’s really good, to be honest, at Fortnite and I guess one day I wouldn’t be surprised if he joins.

“He’s got a team – M10 Esports – and he’s got players. He has a playhouse in Germany. He has football, like FIFA and Fortnite.”

Ozil has been through a rough patch since he left Arsenal in January 2021 and Sogut believes the club could have handled his departure better.

Leading up to Ozil’s departure, the player criticized China for its mistreatment of Uyghur Muslims, while he himself came under fire for posing for a photo with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

“It was a club that was always politically neutral, but not neutral anymore, right? They’ve given up,” he added. ‘They can’t just remain neutral in certain situations. Now they have spoken to Ukraine. They now take a position as a club.

“Now they are candid about problems in the world who then Mesut said, ‘We don’t want to discuss things like that.’

“But it was a development that I think, both for them and for a club, that things are changing and they also have to adapt.”
