- Boss Unai Emery has confirmed Ozil will be part of the squad to face Liverpool
- Ozil has featured just twice this term and has not played for over a month
Mesut Ozil will return to the Arsenal squad for Wednesday’s Carabao Cup game against Liverpool following heart-to-heart talks with manager Unai Emery.
The German has controversial been axed from the Gunners squad for the previous six games casting huge doubt over his future at the club.
But Ozil is set to play at Anfield following showdown talks with Emery at the training ground.

Ozil’s recent improvements in training have offered him a route back into the Arsenal set-up
Emery revealed that Ozil would feature in his squad for the fourth round clash, stating he had been pleased with the German’s recent application in training.
‘Yes, tomorrow. He’s in the group so he has a chance to play. We have had this morning a very good conversation, Mesut and me, and I said to him I haven’t changed my idea about him.
‘He knows what I want from him because it’s the same as last season in the first day of pre-season training when we had a conversation. It’s the same as one month ago and in that way, some circumstances weren’t helping us in every moment to be consistent or available to play.
The playmaker has spent the previous six matches frozen out of Unai Emery’s squad
However, Emery’s talks with the German appear to have stimulated a positive response

‘But I will say I think the last weeks he has progressively been training well and adding his spirit to help us. For example, our conversation this morning was because I wanted to listen to him about how he’s thinking now to help us and be with us tomorrow. Then if we are in the same spirit and the same idea, to play. It was a very good conversation and tomorrow he’s in the group.’
Emery’s side have picked up just one win from their previous four Premier League matches and threw away a two-goal lead at home over Crystal Palace on Sunday to only draw 2-2.
With the Gunners seemingly lacking a creative spark, Emery admits he needs the best of the playmaker to help spark a run of form.
‘We need his quality, his skill and his consistency, he added. ‘We need his positive mentality and then he will help us on the pitch. That’s the next step. I think he’s done the steps before, and now I want the steps like in pre-season and one month ago to help us on the pitch.’
Ozil posted a photo of himself training on Instagram with the caption: ‘Big game ahead. No matter what – the only way is standing together as one.’
Ozil has played just twice all season and not since last month in a clash with Nottingham Forest
Gunners supporters have been calling for the return of Ozil amid their league form decline
