The kidnapping of a woman at a Gold Coast bus stop has sparked a major police operation.

Witnesses saw a woman being forced into a van on Highfield Drive in Merrimac at 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

Several police units, including Polair, searched for the van which was found abandoned in a Bunnings car park in Burleigh.

The woman escaped the situation and sought help at McDonald’s while two men fled the scene. Goal Coast Newsletter reports.

The incident took place near All Saints Anglican School.

A parent wrote on X that the school was closed.

“I had to close my son’s school due to the persecution in Burleigh Waters,” the mother wrote.

The woman is believed to be unharmed and recovering from her ordeal.

A Queensland Police spokesman said officers were investigating the incident.

“Investigations are underway regarding an incident that occurred in Merrimac this evening,” the spokesperson told the publication.

Police have located the vehicle and spoken to the parties involved.

“There is no threat to public safety.”
