Hundreds of high-profile guests, including several former prime ministers, turned out to celebrate the 90th birthday of billionaire property magnate Harry Triguboff in a lavish event complete with a four-course meal and scantily clad performers.

The Meriton founder, who is one of the richest people in Australia, joined 420 of his closest friends for the big event on Saturday night at Sydney Town Hall.

Guests included Scott and Jenny Morrison, as well as fellow former Prime Minister John Howard and his wife Janette, opposition leader Peter Dutton, his wife Kirilly and trucking magnate Lindsay Fox.

Chili margaritas and Moet & Chandon glasses flowed freely, while guests enjoyed performances by former X Factor winner Samantha Jade.

During the night, an acrobat was seen balancing on one leg in an illuminated sphere, while dancers were seen hanging from a ring descending from the ceiling.

A tower of champagne flutes was filled with giant Moet bottles by performers dressed in gold jumpsuits with matching headbands.

Triguboff, who is worth about $24 billion, took the microphone overnight and described being asked by colleagues about the best moments of his life.

“I would say when we had the (Covid) virus everyone showed up to work,” he said.

I didn’t ask anyone to come. They knew that this was the way to run the company: come to work.

So they decided to say that Meriton was like a brotherhood, we’re all brothers, you see, and I thought that was true too.

‘Because although some people leave from time to time, as far as we are concerned, they are always a part of us.’

The event featured a four-course meal of wagyu beef, trout, cheese plates and pavlova, with the Morrisons seated next to Mr. Triguboff and his wife Rhonda.

Four Chinese dragons were also included in the entertainment, as were school bagpipers from Scots College, the billionaire’s former school.

Triguboff grew up in China before attending Scots College on Bellevue Hill in eastern Sydney.

He made his way into the real estate business during the 1960s and now runs Meriton.

The company is a giant in the developing world of Australia and has built more than 77,000 apartments along the country’s east coast.
