A global study has shown what people most seek out in romantic partners.
The research conducted by YouGov shows in 20 countries that personality is the most important characteristic for both men and women in Australia.
But although Australians agree that compatibility comes first, the genders differ considerably from the value of appearance.

An overwhelming 85 percent of Australian women find personality more important than appearance, while only 72 percent of men say the same.
This trend follows throughout the world, with women from every country more often appreciating personality than appearance.
Interestingly, Vietnamese men are the only group that has more physical charisma than personality.
Although they still value personality above appearance, Vietnamese women also pay the most attention to aesthetics from all countries surveyed.
