Nearly 25 years later, Melissa Joan Hart still regrets her young friendship with Britney Spears.
The Sabrina the Teenage Witch star, 48, admitted she feels ‘really guilty‘ about taking the Grammy winner, 42, to her first nightclub when she was a minor, years before Spears’ 2008 breakdown and subsequent conservatorship.
“Britney and I did a lot of press together,” Hart told ET about promoting 1999’s Drive Me Crazy. “And we had a lot of fun together during this time.”
She starred alongside Adrian Grenier in the teen romance, named after Spears’ single ‘(You Drive Me) Crazy’ that appeared on the soundtrack.
Hart and Grenier, 47, also appeared with Spears on the track. music videoand the pop star made a cameo on Hart’s show Sabrina on Nickelodeon that year.

The revelation came years before Spears’ 2008 breakdown and subsequent conservatorship.
“I saw that she was surrounded by people and that she could never free herself,” she recalled. And I said, “Hey, do you want to come?”
“I went to a club every night; I loved dancing and I loved going out, but I also knew to be responsible and when to stop,” Hart added.
The Bad Guardian actress recounted her first night out: “She was underage and young and… but I was like, ‘Let’s go out. We’ll just go out and have some fun.'”
“I feel really guilty about that to this day because I should have known better, being an older sister,” Hart said.
He previously detailed his first night out when he appeared on Bethenny Frankel’s talk show in 2013, admitting that he left Spears at the club.
“So I went to her hotel and asked her to go out with me and we went to a club,” Hart said.
“She was underage, so I snuck her in the back door and we danced a little bit and then people piled on top of her and then she was stuck at a table hanging out with people, chatting,” he recalled.
Hart added. And I thought, “I have to go to work tomorrow, can I go?” And she said, “Yes, yes, yes. No, go, I’m fine. They’ll take me home.”
Spears was placed under conservatorship in 2008, which lasted until 2021, when she gave testimony about the “abusive” treatment she allegedly suffered.

Spears said she was “harassed, gaslit and tricked into going outside” barefoot to meet the ambulance.
‘I was in my pajamas and yes, I had been crying because I hurt my foot!!! No breakdowns!!! ‘I’m a grown woman who is actually very naive in most situations!!!’ she wrote on Instagram.
A source previously told DailyMail.com that it was Britney’s mother, Lynne, who “called 911 and told them that Britney was having a breakdown and had hurt herself,” knowing that her daughter “was in a traumatized state.” .
