Melbourne woman embarks on all-black funeral-themed 30th birthday party to mourn the end of her 20s
An Australian woman said goodbye to her 20s in dramatic fashion by throwing a hilarious funeral-themed party for her 30th birthday.
Alexandra Duffin mourned her third decade on earth surrounded by her loved ones, gathered at her home in Melbourne to pay tribute to the last 10 years of her life.
The content creator spent $1,000 to outfit her party with all-black decorations, including balloons, roses and a birthday cake. She even had food in the shape of a coffin and a sign on the door saying: “Remembering Alexandra’s 20s.”
Friends and family who attended the event arrived dressed in all-black clothing – some even veiled – and they were all invited to visit a memory table, which asked them to bury the memories they had created with Alexandra in her twenties.

Her third decade on earth was mourned by her loved ones, who gathered at her Melbourne home to pay tribute to the passing of her final 10 years.
After posting the video to TikTok, she said: “I love being different and unique, and it was definitely an iconic moment for me to make that a theme.”
“The point of this theme was to bury my twenties and become a mature young woman well into my thirties.
“It was a great day filled with family and good laughs on the theme. It brought everyone together and it was the best birthday party I’ve ever had!
“I’m sad, but I’m also ready to face my thirties.
“I feel like I started a trend and inspired so many people, and I love it because it’s iconic, and the meaning behind it is deeper than people think – it made me definitely makes you smile.”
To create the atmosphere, the party also featured a black background with a black balloon garland, 30 black balloons, a frame on the door saying “In Memory of Alexandra’s 20s”, black roses, candle holders, petals of pink and balloons that hung from the ceiling along with Polaroids of Alexandra when she was a young baby.
Alexandra’s favorite meals were chicken cutlets, chips, salad, a taco station, and spanakopita (a Greek dish).
The party was outfitted with a keepsake table for guests to bury their memories with Alexandra in her 20s.
