Melbourne on high alert: City hit by urgent flash flood warning with severe thunderstorms that will pound suburbs with heavy rain
Melbourne has been placed on high alert for a severe thunderstorm to hit the city, bringing heavy rainfall.
The BOM issued a warning at 2:39 p.m. Monday that severe, slow-moving thunderstorms had been detected on weather radar near Essendon and Footscray in the north of the city.
Storms are expected to hit Broadmeadows, Coburg and Fawkner at 3:10 p.m. and Craigieburn and Tullamarine at 3:40 p.m., the warning said.
“Heavy rainfall leading to flash flooding is likely,” a statement said.
