Heavily armed police are negotiating with a man after he barricaded himself inside a home in Melbourne’s northeast.

Up to 20 officers from the critical response unit camped outside a house on Liberty Parade in Heidelburg West on Tuesday morning.

It is understood the man barricaded himself inside a house at 7.20am

Negotiations with the man are ongoing.

The public has been asked to stay away from their homes.

However, police say there are no current threats to the community.
