Melbourne rental for $270 sparks outrage: ‘Not just appalling but delusional’
A rental ad sparked outrage, with one person calling it ‘not just appalling but delusional’ after realizing what was actually on offer.
The advert, which was shared on the Facebook group two weeks ago, appears to show a seemingly normal two-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment in Little Collins in Melbourne’s CBD.
It’s close to train stations and trams, housemates are described as “clean and tidy individuals” and internet and utilities are free.
And at just $270 a week, it seems like a bargain in an area where average rents are nearly double, at around $500 a week.
But eagle-eyed applicants noticed that the room offered had one major catch: you have to share it with someone else.

“Looking for 1 female to share 2nd bedroom (2pp in bedroom including you),” the ad reads.
‘Totally 3 people in the house, $270/week/person.’
The bedroom in question has two single beds – one smaller than the other – separated by a small bedside table.
It is the smallest bed that is offered.
Potential contestants were appalled by the entry, with one calling it “not only appalling but delusional”.
“I’m going to say you’re disgusting (sic) trying to get someone to fuckin’ rent a bed,” one said.
“Tell me you’re wrong without telling me,” wrote another.
One simply called the list “disgusting”, while another described it as “very exploitative”.
Daily Mail Australia has approached the person who listed the bed for comment.
