The 32-meter-tall driver allegedly lost control of the truck and crashed into a pole in Melbourneto the south east, shortly before 3 a.m. on Monday.

Moments after the accident, the driver was seen fleeing, but a 47-year-old woman was left at the scene with catastrophic injuries, although she was still alive.

The driver was located a short time later hiding in a bush by police dogs.

Victoria Police Detective Sergeant Stephen Hill told reporters he could not understand how anyone could leave another person for dead.
