This is the shocking moment a huge crane almost killed a schoolgirl while she was playing outside her house.

The incident occurred at a property in Atherton, Wigan, Greater Manchester, yesterday around 10.30am

Photos of the massacre show part of the roof and front wall destroyed and at least one room on the top floor of the townhouse was completely destroyed by the accident.

The accident also caused a fire and firefighters worked to isolate gas and electricity from the property and clean up a fuel spill from the road.

The family has been placed in emergency accommodation, but they do not know when they will be able to return.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire Service said: “At around 10.30am today (Saturday, April 6), firefighters were called to reports of a crane that had fallen over the side of a residential property in Atherton, Wigan.

‘A fire engine from Atherton Fire Station quickly arrived at the scene, where a truck carrying the crane had overturned on the road.

Greater Manchester Police set up a cordon on the street, while firefighters worked to isolate gas and electricity from the property and clean up spilled fuel from the road.

‘Now the site has been left in the hands of GMP and the crane operating company to recover the crane.

“Local authorities help occupants find temporary accommodation.”

So far there is no confirmation about the causes of the incident.

However, it comes as Storm Kathleen brought strong winds to parts of the country.

Wind gusts were around 40mph on Saturday in Greater Manchester, while areas closer to the coast experienced winds of 70mph.

Wigan Council said it is helping the occupants of the house find temporary accommodation.

Greater Manchester Police said in a statement: “Officers are working, alongside emergency services, to investigate and clear up an incident involving a crane which collided with a residential building.”

“Fortunately, no injuries have been reported and investigations are ongoing to find out how this happened.

“The scene is expected to remain in place until later today and we ask the public to avoid the area.

“We would like to thank you for your patience as we respond to this incident.”
