Melbourne carjacking: Man fighting for life after being hit by his own 4×4 breaks silence

A carjacking victim says doctors told him it was a “miracle” that he survived being hit by their vehicle as he desperately tried to stop the robbery.

Jinwoo Song, 30, and his partner BiBi Kim had left their Ford Escape running while unloading groceries at their new apartment on Hardware Street in Melbourne’s CBD last Thursday.

An opportunistic thief riding a scooter jumped on the car and tried to flee, but Mr Song bravely clung to the front of the vehicle in an attempt to prevent the escape, only to end up under the wheels of the 4×4.

The entire terrifying experience was captured on security cameras.

Mr Song was rushed to Royal Melbourne Hospital where he spent the first night in a critical condition.

He spent four nights in the hospital recovering from a fractured sternum with his entire body covered in bruises.

Five days after the ordeal, Mr Song considers himself lucky, even though he still bears physical and mental scars.

“The doctor at the hospital said, ‘It’s a miracle. You’re very lucky, but you’re unlucky,'” Song said. Nine news on Tuesday.

“The tire went over my head, my arms and my chest. Because I was spinning, I thought: ‘I’m going to die, I’m going to die.'”

Mr Song said he owed his life to two doctors who witnessed the incident and rushed to his aid.

“He (one of the doctors) told me, ‘You’re in a very serious condition, but you can do it. Just don’t move and keep talking,'” Song recalled.

Since he was discharged he has been able to thank the doctors for saving his life.

His partner is still traumatized by what she witnessed.

“That moment when he got out of the car replays over and over in my mind,” Kim said.

Mr. Song has a long recovery ahead of him, but he is grateful to have been given what he considers “a second life.”

‘I’m going to try to live this second life with meaning.’

Police are still searching for the man who fled in his car.
