Read the “illegal” handwritten note provoking outrage against a bus driver: “$100 cash to the driver if you want to drink!”
- Sign charging passengers $100 to drink on the bus
- Social media users outraged by ‘illegal’ sign
A bus driver has been scolded for a cheeky handwritten note that passengers claim is “illegal.”
Above the rear-view mirror of the Melbourne bus is the sign that reads ‘No food or drink to be consumed on this vehicle’.
But below that, in black felt-tip pen, are the added words: “$100 cash – driver if you want a drink!”
The prank didn’t go down well with users on Reddit, who complained it was “silly” given the state’s sweltering temperatures.
“If you’re stuck in 30-degree heat in a sardine can for an hour, it seems reasonable to be allowed to hydrate yourself,” said one user.
Another shared their frustrations with the “liquor policy” not approved by the Victorian Underground or the government, arguing that the driver was practicing “extortion and extortion”.

“Good luck with that,” said one user.
Another wrote: ‘No alcohol for sure. Otherwise kick against stones.’
A third asked, “Isn’t it illegal to deny people their right to water?”
“What about people with medical conditions? Are you going to tell someone with diabetes that they can’t take their jellybeans on board?’ added another.
One person said ‘I love to see them trying to enforce that’.
“In any case, you absolutely cannot prevent someone from drinking water at any time in any public place. You’d be just as lucky if you enforce a “Don’t Breathe” sign.”
