Melanie Lynskey was just a teenager when she made her feature debut in Peter Jackson’s 1994 feature film, Heavenly Creatures, where she linked up with her co-star Kate Winslet.
Lynskey, 45, and Winslet, 47, both earned rave reviews for their performances as two teenage girls whose intense friendship leads their parents to separate them… resulting in the girls’ revenge, though Winslet’s and Lynskey’s careers have taken different paths.
While Lynskey had roles in films like Ever After and Detroit Rock City, Winslet went on to star in Sense and Sensibility, Hamlet, and Titanic in the three years following Heavenly Creatures.
Lynskey has been promoting the new season of Showtime’s Yellowjackets, which debuts in late March, on Josh Horowitz. happy sad confused podcast, when she opened up about losing touch with Winslet.
Although she revealed that nothing happened between them led to the end of the friendship, it was “heartbreaking”.

“When I lost contact with Kate, it was more heartbreaking than some of the breakups I’ve been through,” Lynskey revealed.
